Ad so it begins...

Although it is many months away, preparing for a long trip takes planning and preparation, not only in the motorcycle, but in the right mindset, proper gear, season of travel, and best routes.

This blog will document the journey and with lots of luck and the right preparation, I will be one step closer to the real 'bucket list' of a trip across the USA. It took me two motorcycles to realize what I truly needed from a touring standpoint. The 2007 Softail Deluxe was ok for a 'starter' bike, but I realized on a trip to the Catskills Mountains, that the Deluxe, although a great cruiser, was not made for the open road and truly long distance touring. Another realization was a trip out to Scottsdale AZ and renting a 2011 Road Glide Custom. They don't call it 'Big Sky' country for nothing. That term is amplified when riding on a Harley.

Here is the trip route: (loosely mapped out)

Hotel accommodations are booked up until Halifax. Ruth and I will be hitting Halifax on July 1st, Canada Day. We may stay one day or two, but after that, wherever we end the day is when we will find a place to rest.
